Lectures by a Retired U.S. Prosecutor for Future Criminal Justice Professionals
01-05-2025At the National Academy of Internal Affairs, as part of the «Guest Lecturer» project, lectures were delivered by retired United States Attorney David Raymond Lewis. The sessions focused on the peculiarities of the U.S. criminal justice system. Cadets and students of the Academy had a unique opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the American model of criminal procedure and the practical experience of one of the leading experts in the field.
During the lectures, David Lewis provided a detailed overview of the structure of the U.S. criminal justice system and the fundamental rights of suspects and defendants guaranteed by the United States Constitution. Topics included investigation methods, practices of engaging witnesses (accomplices) in cooperation, procedures for arrest and asset forfeiture, as well as the specific features of sentencing.
With over 30 years of experience in the U.S. federal prosecution system, the lecturer shared practical aspects of handling complex criminal cases, particularly in the areas of financial crimes, corruption, organized crime, and money laundering. David Lewis also highlighted modern challenges related to cybercrime and transnational economic crime
